Keyboard-wedge readers transfer data from cards, tags or mobile passes. This can either be done with a standard reader and suitable software, or by using a specialist wedge reader. Data is sent to the host system in the form of an emulated keyboard input. (This is different to standard PC/SC smartcard reader operation, where Windows / Linux / MacOS systems generally do not make smartcard information visible, natively).
‘Read-a-Card’ software is a keyboard wedge utility that can be used with standard PC/SC readers. Read-a-Card captures card/tag/mobile pass data from all common RFID/NFC types (including securely encoded data on DESFire and iCLASS cards). It can be set up to automatically reformat data and output to existing applications with wedge functionality, logging to file, to cloud / web services or launching an app.
